These particular toothpastes (dentifrices) contain mild abrasives that help remove surface stains. Some also contain polishing chemicals but no bleaching elements that could harm sensitive teeth. Use a whitening toothpaste twice a day, and you're bound to notice results in a couple of weeks. Make it a habit to use it regularly to keep your teeth sparkly white.
Like all natural teeth whitening methods, use of baking soda too has its set of downsides. The abrasive nature of baking soda wears off the teeth enamel leaving it weak and damaged with frequent use. It can also irritate the gums, and result in painful gum infections.
Almost everyone will recommend this one. While the usage differs, the most common method is to mix the baking soda with hydrogen peroxide, and scrub it on your teeth for a few minutes. Be really careful not to swallow any, as it can be very harmful. Follow this with a quick clean up (brushing) using your regular toothpaste.
